Waterline – 2019

Sediment carried by water and the resulting erosion, whether of natural or anthropogenic origin, are among the most ancient and ongoing forces shaping our environment. The interplay between temporally and spatially unfolding natural processes and human interventions reveals sensitive intersections in the relationship between environment and society. Ferenc Forrai’s art investigates this dynamic interaction: the constant rewiring of a world in motion, the shifting of reference points, and the re-tuning of the relationship between nature and humanity.

series: Waterline
date: 2012–2019.
location: Artus Gallery, Budapest
writer: Ferenc Domokos
photographer: Ferenc Forrai
Through formal compositions, Forrai references natural processes and the effects of human intervention on them: by emphasizing artificial interference, he symbolically evokes the external, human impacts on our waters, changes in their extent, volume, and quality, which in turn generate negative consequences in natural, social, and physiological environments.
